What income can be made?

The charge per brass rubbing is purely a financial decision which would be based on an allowance for rent, rates, heating, lighting and type of customer (tourists, schoolchildren etc.)

However, if we took an average charge for rubbing a medium size replica (for example our Henry VIII brass which is 10” x 17”), the following breakdown would apply:

Charge for rubbing £2.50
(an example price)
Less wax used £0.05
Less paper used (black) £0.11
Less masking tape £0.02
Less VAT (UK only) £0.37

Net Margin £1.95

These figures do not allow for the variable costs such as heating and lighting but do show the excellent margins available. The price per rubbing can be altered to suit the size of the replica. The larger brasses can offer even higher margins since the actual cost of the materials would represent a smaller percentage of the rubbing charge.
