Resin Historic Figures figure - "The Black Prince"

Size - 5.5 ins. x 2.5 ins (14.0 cm x 6.3 cm)

Edward Plantagenet of Woodstock, 1330 - 1376

By the frequent display of arms and armour Prince Edward Plantagenet of Woodstock was the very embodiment of a knight in the Age of Chivalry; displaying courage, courtesy, valour and honour in equal measure as he cut his way through massed ranks of the enemy year after year.

This long and consistently successful career in mayhem began at the age of sixteen at the Battle of Crecy, and the title he eventually achieved, that of ‘The Black Prince’, may have been awarded not because of the black suit of armour he wore but because of his thoroughly black personality: a possessor of black moods and a doer of black deeds.

It was perhaps remarkable that with a life devoted to such carnage Edward should die diseased, bloated and fly-blown but peacefully in his bed. He predeceased his father, King Edward III by only a year and thus never achieved his Coronation: probably a good thing for England as his heroic deeds seem to have been confined to the Field of Battle and the Tournament: in times of peace and idleness he was cruel, arrogant and feckless and it may be assumed that in his slippery, blood-soaked hands the ship of state would have been quickly wrecked in an orgy of self indulgent feasts, jousting, fancy clothes and trouble making.

This piece is modelled from the Prince’s tomb in Canterbury Cathedral and shows him in full battle armour with the ‘coat of arms’ of England: the three lions passant and the fleurs de lys embroidered on his ‘surcoat’.

Resin Historic Figures Wall Plaque - "Elizabeth I"

Size - 5.5 ins. x 3 ins. (14.0 cm x 7.6 cm)

Queen of England - 1533-1603

Based on an amalgam of three portraits: by ?, Anon. & Marcus Gheeraerts the Younger this represents Elizabeth in familiar pose: magnificent, statuesque and bejewelled- Queen of all she surveyed.

Variations on this theme were painted throughout her long reign and the story goes that so vain did she become, especially in later years when her hair and teeth had fallen out and the white lead makeup was applied to her physiognomy by means of a spatula, that she assigned a ‘Surveyor of Portraits’ to supply a template of her idealised face to aspiring artists and to destroy any painting (and possibly painter) getting too close to the truth. Certainly a representational painter like Holbein would not have got far in the ‘Court of Good Queen Bes’.

This magnificent figure was designed, sculpted and manufactured in England, using resin-bonded Cotswold stone or Terracotta. Modern moulding techniques faithfully reproduce the intricate and painstaking work of the sculptor whilst giving the appearance of real carved stone or sculpted terracotta.

Since resin is completely weatherproof, you can hang this impressive plaque either inside or outside the home. Truly a unique gift idea for lovers of things Historical, which is well presented in an attractive, 'leatherette' style, burgundy coloured box.

Resin Historic Figure Wall Plaque - Henry VIII"

Size - 5.5 ins. x 3 ins. (14.0 cm x 7.6 cm)

King of England - 1491-1547

This sculpture is based on the famous portrait by Hans Holbein the Younger, and shows Henry VIII, the Great King, in portly middle age as he leaves his handsome and vigorous youth behind him.

With increasing ill humour the debauched and diseased tyrant took to stamping his authority on church and state. This lover of art, music, culture and women looted the monasteries and exchequer to finance his passion for senseless wars, elaborate costume and an over-rich diet. 'Good King Hal' has come to embody all that was truly great about 'Merrye Englande': by the time he met his end he had put to death some 50,000 of his loyal subjects, including two of his six wives. The Magnificent Monarch showed his base nature with consummate ease.

Hans Holbein drew with lifelike accuracy many of the King’s Court; the very people who were promoted through the ranks to achieve high office, and subsequent decapitation. Holbein himself survived the rigours of the Royal household to die of natural causes- of The Black Death in 1543.

This casting is designed, sculpted and manufactured in England, using resin-bonded Cotswold stone or Terracotta. Modern moulding techniques faithfully reproduce the intricate and painstaking work of the sculptor whilst giving the appearance of real carved stone or sculpted terracotta.

Since resin is completely weatherproof, you can hang this impressive plaque either inside or outside the home . Truly a unique gift idea for lovers of things historical, which is well presented in an attractive, 'leatherette' style, burgundy coloured box.

A hole is provided in the rear for simple hanging.
