Full Scale, Replica or Theme? Reduced Scale

This finely engraved brass is unique in that until 1910 it was mounted forty feet up on the outside of the church tower, from where it looked out over the delightful Lincolnshire countryside for over four hundred years.

In the time of King Henry VIII, when the final break with the Church of Rome took place in England, Henry's emissaries travelled the kingdom seeking out and destroying all relics of the famous English Saint. The position of this brass, however, ensured it's safety: as local legend has it, "Henry just did not have a long enough ladder"!

No records exist to indicate who is commemorated by the brass but from the rivet holes - still visible by the tower clock - he was depicted as a small figure kneeling at the feet of, and being blessed by, the Archbishop

£88.13

Height in inches: 17

Width in inches: 10

Weight in kg: 2.1

Anne was the daughter of sir Thomas Bullen of Hever in Kent. Her elder sister, Mary, was Henry VIII's mistress in about 1520, and Anne owed much to her swift rise to favour at Court to her sister.

As lady-in-waiting to Queen Catherine, Anne caught the eye of Henry, who became infatuated by her dark beauty and winning wiles. But she had no intention of becoming just another of his mistresses and this gave impetus to Henry's plans to obtain a divorce from Atherine of Aragon. In his pursuit of a male heir he married Anne in 1533 and she bore him a daughter, Elizabeth (later to become Elizabeth I).

But after she miscarried of a boy child, her failure to produce a male heir and the plotting of her enemies led to her fall from favour and eventual execution on a charge of adultery.

Resin Sculpture - "The Dodo"

Size - 5 ins. H x 5 ins. L x 2.5 ins. W (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm x 6.4 cm)

Over thousands of years of isolation on the Mascarene Islands in the Indian Ocean the curious Dodo was able to develop its remarkable form: the absence of predators meant it could enjoy a plump, flightless and tranquil existence amongst the lush subtropical vegetation.

However such a physiology meant it also provided a welcome (and easily caught) feast for the first Portuguese sailors who arrived in 1507.

It is regrettable that none had the presence of mind to save the Dodo from extinction. Had this been so the Dodo perhaps might have survived to find a role in the modern world: as the centre piece of the Christmas Feast.

This figure is designed, sculpted and manufactured in England, using resin-bonded marble, Cotswold stone or Terracotta. Modern moulding techniques faithfully reproduce the intricate and painstaking work of the sculptor whilst giving the appearance of real carved stone or sculpted terracotta or marble

Truly a unique Gift Idea for lovers of Natural History.

The sculpture has a felt base to protect the surface it stands on, but since resin is weatherproof, there is no reason why it could not be displayed outside if you so wished.

This Gryphon's noble lineage has assured it a place on the Arms and Crests of Nobles and Royalty throughout the ages.

Resin Sculpture - "Pegasus"

Size - 5 ins.H x 5 ins.L x 2.5 ins. W (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm x 6.4 cm)

Pegasus, the winged horse in Greek mythology was born of the blood which spurted from Medusa (a Gorgon) when Perseus cut off her head. Athena tamed Pegasus with a golden bridle as he flew up to join the gods. Athena gave the bridle (and thence the horse) to Bellerophon before his fight with the Chimera. Bellerophon, himself a demi-god (son of Poseidon or Glaucos), and grandson of Sisyphus, having tamed Pegasus, killed the Chimera, conquered the Amazons, and having been given the hand of the daughter of the King of Lycea in marriage, became proud, whence Pegasus bucked him off and flew off into the heavens where Zeus made him into a constellation (the "Great Square"). Pegasus is also known as the inspirer of poetic creativity: as the Muses were holding a song contest, Zeus dispatched Pegasus to stop the ruckus, and the streams which had resulted on the growing slopes of Mount Helicon. Pegasus stomped his hoof on the mountain, and the fountain Hippocrene sprang forth (hippos = horse). This fountain is an inspiration to poetry, as are Aganippe and Pieria, fountains of inpsiration created by Pegasus' stamping.

This beautiful figure is designed, sculpted and manufactured in England, using resin-bonded Cotswold stone. Modern moulding techniques faithfully reproduce the intricate and painstaking work of the sculptor whilst giving the appearance of real carved stone.

Truly a unique and unusual Gift Idea.

Resin Sculpture - "Pegasus"

Size - 5 ins.H x 5 ins.L x 2.5 ins. W (12.7 cm x 12.7 cm x 6.4 cm)

Bellerophon's greatest desire was to ride the magnificent winged horse, Pegasus. He thought he would never even get close to Pegasus, let alone tame him and ride him. One night, the goddess Athena appeared to him in a dream. "What man swears cannot be done, should not be hoped for. Power on high will place it in his hands with ease."

Bellerophon woke to find a golden bridle at his feet. He went to Pegasus' favorite meadow and found the wonderful horse. Pegasus trotted right over and allowed himself to be mounted without a struggle.

Horse and rider were a perfect match and they had many exciting and successful adventures. Unfortunately for Bellerophon, he was determined to become a god. One day, he leaped onto Pegasus and urged him up toward Olympus, the home of the gods. Pegasus was wiser and for the first time, would not obey. He threw his rider to the ground and flew away. Bellerophon, whose ambition had grown too great, wandered on foot for the rest of his life, avoiding contact with other people.

This magnificent figure is designed, sculpted and manufactured in England, using resin-bonded marble. Modern moulding techniques faithfully reproduce the intricate and painstaking work of the sculptor whilst giving the appearance of real sculpted marble.

Truly a unique and unusual Gift Idea.
